What attracted you to GSV?

I volunteered at the Good Shepherd Shelter in LA through college and loved the GSVs I met there.  I appreciated the direct mission of GSV and found it lined up perfectly with my personal beliefs and goals of empowerment.

Where are you serving/what kind of work are you doing?

I am a Youth Development Counselor at Marian Hall, a long term residential program for young ladies in the foster care system.

How have you seen personal growth thus far as a result of your experience (site placement/community) with GSV?

I’ve grown more patient, more understanding, become a better listener, and have developed new life and career goals.  Social work is definitely in my future now!

What is the best or most surprising part about your volunteer year so far?

I am completely in love with my community, my service site, and New York.  I thought I’d have a harder time adjusting across the country, but I’ve been lucky.

Any advice for someone considering post-graduate service?
